Guiding Question:

- My sustained investigation will focus on physical isolation and how it can teach us more about ourselves, both positively and negatively. My inspiration for this came from looking at work from Henri Prestes and Todd Hido. I like the eerie vibe and feeling of uncertainty that these pieces of work give me. They kind of give me this idea that we aren’t ever really complacent, further undervaluing ourselves and the way we go about living our lives. I think this is something I would love to explore and hopefully translate into my photography. I know this kinda sounds all over the place but this is what I am thinking so far for my sustained investigation.

  • How can the emphasis of lights and light sources but the lack of subject still make us feel lonely?

Why do empty photos and settings make us feel lonely/isolated?

Reflection:

- The idea of this photoshoot was to focus on lighting and how exposure and contrast within a photo can strengthen the message of the photo.

- canon camera, external flash

- Considering I took these photos at night, I made sure to use the external flash to shed light on the little details in the background to further emphasize nature within the state of isolation. Additionally, I heavily focused on the space under the street lamps to further point out the lack of a subject.
