Stop Sign Photo Reflection:
- This photo was taken last year for the "environmental/nature" category. I intentionally focused on the isolation of color and the use of angles to emphasize my subject and its color.
- canon camera, lightroom
- To capture this, I used a lot of cropping and contrast within the photo to create a more noticable connection between the use of colors and how they compliment eachother.
Helmet Photo Reflection:
- This photo was taken at a playground at an elementary school. I used the negative space and the gloomy weather to focus on the left behind helmet, further creating a stronger image of isolation.
- canon camera, lightroom
- I used rule of thirds and the presentation of negative space in order to create a parallel between the two, further strengthening the isolation of my subject.
Landscape Process Piece Reflection:
- This piece is related to the sketchbook process piece and the landscape represented.
- Powerpoint, photos
- The purpose of this process piece is to show the viewer the various photos taken within this photoshoot and represent the different photos which were in competition to my final photo.

Guiding Question:
- My sustained investigation will focus on physical isolation and how it can teach us more about ourselves, both positively and negatively. I like the eerie mood and feeling of uncertainty that is displayed through the dark lighting and use of single subjects. It gives me this idea that we aren’t ever really complacent, further undervaluing ourselves and the way we go about living our lives. Throughout this investigations, I focused on the question: How does lighting and the lack of subject induce the subconscious feeling of isolation and loneliness?
As I continued to practice with the rule of thirds and the lack of bright colors, I was able to emphasize the uncomfortable feeling of my viewers' experience. Experimenting with colors and single subjects helped create a secluded environment, internally forcing a feeling of uncomfortableness. After the process of taking these photos, I pivoted towards revising my pieces by enhancing the darker images and cropping certain pieces to create harsher lines. As I finished my investigation, I made sure to really create pieces which would intentionally force my viewers to feel more lonely and uneasy.
